  • AUD 5995 per person on twin share basis

  • Single supplement: AUD 1000 per person

Sue has been writing and teaching writing for many years and has held writing retreats in Italy, India and Greece. On this retreat she returns to Crete – one of her favourite places in the world to write – to set the scene for her remarkable evidence-based process and to inspire her writers in creating settings and characters by using the sights, light and mood of the beautiful Mediterranean landscape.

Interspersed between teaching sessions there will be excursions to some of beautiful places in and around Hania and also time to just wander alone or find a quiet spot to sit and work on your writing pieces - perhaps a small cafe overlooking the picturesque Venetian harbour.

Sue will teach a beginners class and a masterclass. Schedules for classes will be finalised nearer the time of the retreat.Evenings will be free to dine in one of the many local restaurants which line the Hania harbour below our hotel.
You will form bonds with fellow writers that will help nurture and support you when you return home – and you will become part of a close network of writers who have benefitted from Sue's unique teaching style.

Highlights

  • WRITING WITH SUE WOOLFE

Sue has a loyal band of students who have returned again and again to her retreats - because they gain so much from them. Many have attended other writing courses but come back to Sue because of the effectiveness of her process and her passion for teaching creatinve writing.

  • CHANIA

Chania will steal your heart. Romans, Byzantines, Muslims, Venetians, Ottomans... all came through here, creating a multicultural corner of Crete. Wandering around the port, you'll encounter the 16th century Venetian lighthouse, the Grand Arsenal, Kum Kapi and Halepa. The alleys are full of surprises and every stroll is an experience.

  • LUTRO

Loutro is a tiny remote seaside village in the south of Crete, sparkling white next to a turquoise green and blue bay, with the harsh rocky mountains rising up behind it. It is a wonderful day trip from Hania with time to sit in a cafe, take a swim or simply wander the foreshore.

  • CRETAN CUISINE

Here you'll understand why Cretan cuisine has gained worldwide acclaim. In the fish tavernas, rakadika, and historic cafes, the flavours of Crete will win you over, sampling local recipes such as tsigariasto, boureki, kalitsounia, pilafi, dakos, as well as all sorts of delicious grilled meat. Then there is the wine !

  • MEETING KINDRED WRITING SPIRITS

One of the most memorable - and important - aspects of our retreats is the bond you form with your fellow retreaters. On each of our retreats around the world writers have found companions to share this experience and to help maintain the skills and passion long after you return home. We expect this to be the case with our Cretan journey.

  • KNOSSOS

Capital of Minoan Crete and site of the ancient Minoan palace and surrounding city on the island of Crete, sung of by Homer in his Odyssey: "Among their cities is the great city of Cnosus, where Minos reigned when nine years old, he that held converse with great Zeus."
